An ongoing service delivery protest is occurring along the N12 highway near Lenasia and Soweto, southern Johannesburg, early July 22. The affected section lies between the R558 and the R553 interchanges. Residents of the nearby lower-income neighborhood have erected barricades. Security services have advised motorists to use Nirvana Drive, Chris Hani Road, or the R553 as alternatives. This is the second such incident in recent weeks, following a similar protest on July 11.

Heightened security is likely in the affected area over the coming hours. Further associated transport disruptions are possible, including along the nearby N1 highway.
