US: Flight disruptions occurring in New York metropolitan area July 10 due to adverse weather

Flight disruptions, including delays and cancellations, will likely affect airports in the New York metropolitan area into at least late July 10 due to thunderstorms impacting the region. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has issued ground delay programs at LaGuardia (LGA), Newark International (EWR), and John F. Kennedy International (JFK) airports; the FAA may modify or rescind the ground delay programs on short notice. As of the late afternoon of July 10, some flights to the impacted airports are being held at their points of origin, delaying arrivals at LGA by an average of 78 minutes, JFK by 160 minutes, and EWR by 154 minutes.
The FAA may issue additional weather-related ground delay programs and/or ground stops for airports in the New York metropolitan area over the coming hours. Residual disruptions are possible even after weather conditions improve as airlines work to clear passenger backlogs.
