US: Emergency personnel deploy to multiple hotels in central Chicago amid bomb threats Aug. 20

As of the afternoon of Aug. 20, several bomb threats have prompted a significant police response in central Chicago. Preliminary information indicates that media outlets received emails claiming pipe bombs have been placed in at least four hotels, including the Nobu Hotel West Loop, the Hotel Chicago West Loop, as well as the Hyatt House Chicago in the University District and the St. Regis Chicago. Authorities, including bomb squads, are deployed and are searching the respective hotels; it remains unclear whether officers have located any explosive devices at any of the affected locations.

Increased security and localized transportation disruptions are likely as authorities continue their investigation into the threats. Authorities may evacuate the impacted hotels and surrounding areas out of an abundance of caution.
