Thunderstorms prompt ground stop at O'Hare International Airport in Chicago, Ill., US, July 7; lingering flight disruptions likely.

Warning

Flight disruptions, including delays and cancellations, will likely affect airports in Chicago, Illinois, through at least the afternoon of July 7 due to severe weather impacting the region. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has issued a ground stop for O'Hare International Airport (ORD) that is slated to remain in effect until at least 15:15 due to thunderstorms. The FAA may extend, rescind, or otherwise modify the ground stop on short notice.

The FAA may also issue additional weather-related ground delay programs and/or ground stops for airports in Chicago, including Midway International Airport (MDW), over the coming hours. Residual disruptions are possible even after weather conditions improve as airlines work to clear any passenger backlogs that have materialized.

Confirm flight reservations if scheduled to travel via an airport in the Chicago area, including ORD and MDW. Do not check out of accommodations until onward travel is confirmed. Consider making alternative arrangements for time-sensitive travel if necessary.
