Vietnam: Political party leader's funeral likely to cause localized transport and business disruptions in Hanoi July 25-26

The funeral of Nguyen Phu Trong, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV), will occur in Hanoi July 25-26. The public will pay respects to the leader at National Funeral Home between 07:00-22:00 July 25 and 07:00-13:00 July 26. A memorial service will begin at 13:00 July 26, before a burial service at Mai Dich Cemetery from 15:00. Hundreds of supporters will likely gather at the venues. The event is likely to pass off peacefully.

Authorities will likely maintain an increased security presence near sites hosting formal events and facilitate the movement of government officials' motorcades. Associated localized transport and business disruptions are probable; Nguyen Huy Tu, Nguyen Khoai, Tranh Hung Dao, Tranh Khan Du, Tranh Than Tong streets around the National Funeral Home, as well as Ho Tung Mau and Tranh Vy streets around the cemetery, are likely to be the worst affected.
