Yemen: Israel conducts airstrikes against Al-Houthis in Al-Hudaydah July 20
Israeli airstrikes target multiple locations in Al-Hudaydah, Yemen, on July 20 in retaliation to Tel Aviv drone attack.
Israeli airstrikes targeted multiple locations in Al-Hudaydah, Yemen, July 20. The airstrikes are in retaliation to the Al-Houthis' July 19 attack in Tel Aviv, which killed one person and wounded several others. According to media outlets linked to the Al-Houthis, the Israeli airstrikes targeted oil storage facilities and a power plant in Al-Hudaydah. The airstrikes have reportedly resulted in casualties, but the Al-Houthis have not released further details as of yet.
The Al-Houthis will likely retaliate by launching weaponized drones and missiles against Israeli cities over the coming hours and days.
Heed the instructions of local security forces. If incoming fire is reported in the general vicinity, stay indoors, away from windows and exterior walls. If possible, move to a ground floor or basement. Maintain contact with your country's diplomatic mission.
The Al-Houthis, which control most of northern Yemen, are allied with Iran. The group has been targeting commercial and military vessels in the Red Sea, the Gulf of Aden, and the Mediterranean Sea since the Israel-Hamas conflict began in October 2023. As part of their solidarity campaign with Hamas, the Al-Houthis have also been launching projectiles against the southern Israeli city of Eilat.
The July 19 drone strike, however, on Tel Aviv represents a significant development as it is the first known instance of an Al-Houthi projectile evading Israel's air defense system. This incident will likely prompt further Israeli military actions against the group.
