Pro-Ukraine activists and political groups plan to rally across Canada and the US on Aug. 24 to commemorate Ukrainian Independence Day. Demonstrations will be widespread in major cities as part of a worldwide movement. There will reportedly be at least 47 events, with the main ones occurring at the following locations:

Canada

  • Toronto: Two gatherings at 256 Centennial Park Rd from 10:00; Queen's Park Legislative Assembly of Ontario from 12:00.

  • Montreal: Place Jacques-Cartier from 12:00; Gathering at 3260 Rue Beaubien E from 19:00.

  • Quebec: Plains of Abraham from 12:00.

  • Victoria: Beckwith Park from 13:00

  • Regina: 4180 Albert St from 11:00

US

  • Boston: City Hall Plaza from 12:00

  • Chicago: 2247 W Chicago Ave from 16:00

  • Los Angeles: 4315 Melrose Ave from 13:00

  • San Diego: El Cid Campeador Statue from 14:00

  • Austin: Capital Plaza from 11:00

  • Washington, D.C.: White House from 17:00 before march toward Taras Shevchenko Memorial.

Related gatherings will occur in numerous locations elsewhere across the US and Canada, most likely in prominent public squares and possibly in front of Russian diplomatic missions. Authorities will likely deploy additional police to monitor and facilitate the protests. Security measures and associated road closures will probably cause localized traffic disruptions. Most of the events will remain largely peaceful; some counter-protests are possible.

Avoid all protests as a routine security precaution. Follow local travel and security advice. Allow extra time for travel in affected areas.
