Chile: Teachers to launch nationwide protests Aug. 7

Teachers call for nationwide demonstrations in Chile Aug. 7. Related protests are likely in urban centers.

Warning

Unionized teachers from the Association of Teachers of Chile (Colegio de Profesores de Chile) plan to launch nationwide demonstrations on Aug. 7 to demand improved salaries and working conditions, among other requests. The Santiago Metropolitan Area participants will gather from 10:00 near Plaza Baquedano before marching towards Los Heroes Metro Station. Additional gatherings will likely occur in other major urban centers near schools and government buildings.

Security forces will almost certainly deploy to any gatherings during the strike. Clashes between protesters and the security forces are possible. Ground travel disruptions are likely near any protest or security force deployment.

Avoid all protests. Liaise with trusted contacts for updates on possible gathering points. Heed the instructions of the security forces.
