India: Further sporadic bomb threats likely nationwide through at least early September

Further sporadic bomb threats, associated disruptions likely in India through at least early September. Exercise increased caution.

Informational

Further bomb threats and associated disruptions are likely to occur sporadically across India through at least early September. In recent days, such threats have increased in frequency at various public locations such as hospitals and shopping malls in urban centers, including the National Capital Region (NCR). While most bomb threats have been hoaxes, they have led to heightened security measures, including evacuation orders and cordons, at affected locations.

Authorities will likely implement increased security measures, including evacuation orders and search operations, in response to any bomb threat. Possible cordons and road closures may prompt localized transport and business disruptions. Flight disruptions are possible at airports due to enhanced screening procedures.

Plan for localized business and travel disruptions, particularly if operating near regularly impacted sites. Reconfirm the status of flights before departure. Depart an area at the first sign of any security disturbance. Heed all official directives.

Since mid-August, bomb threats have occurred at multiple locations across India. Bomb threats targeted 100 shopping malls and hospitals in Delhi Aug. 20; several hospitals in Jaipur, Rajasthan State, Aug. 18; and malls in NCR and Navi Mumbai, Maharashtra State, Aug. 17. While India faces a persistent threat of terrorism, the recent bomb threats do not necessarily indicate a worsening operational environment.
