Increased security measures are likely to remain in effect in Udaipur, Rajasthan State, through late August. Officials are imposing Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedures in Udaipur as of Aug. 17 after a student was stabbed at a government school in the city. Several Hindu right-wing groups have held protests across Udaipur following the incident, with reports of arson and vandalism at gatherings in the Madhuban area. Under Section 144, public gatherings of more than five people, loudspeakers, and microphones are prohibited. The carrying of weapons and the possession and use of fireworks is also banned. Internet services are suspended across Udaipur through at least 22:00 Aug. 17.

Officials could expand security measures to other surrounding areas as a precaution or if tensions persist. Associated transport disruptions are likely. Protests by the local community against the implementation of Section 144 are possible. Clashes between police, demonstrators, and rival communities cannot be ruled out. Localized business disruptions are possible.

Exercise increased caution if operating in Udaipur. Strictly heed the instructions of local authorities. Remain courteous and cooperative if approached and questioned by law enforcement personnel. Confirm road status before traveling to locations under curfew or movement restrictions. If any violence erupts nearby, depart the area immediately.
