Israel: Education workers plan to strike nationwide, Sept. 1
Unionized education workers plan to hold a 24-hour nationwide strike in Israel on Sept. 1. Associated protests possible.
Unionized education workers affiliated with the Secondary School Teachers Association plan to hold a 24-hour nationwide strike in Israel on Sept. 1. The action is in response to ongoing disputes regarding pay and working conditions.
There have been no calls for protests, but related demonstrations and pickets around schools and government buildings are possible. Heightened security and localized traffic disruptions are possible near any demonstrations. Violence is unlikely.
Avoid pickets as a precaution. Plan for some localized protest- and strike-related disruption should the action proceed.
In both the 2022-2023 and 2023-2024 academic years, strikes were narrowly avoided at the last minute due to salary increases. It remains to be seen whether authorities will be able to reach an agreement with similar measures in time for Sept. 1.
