Israel: Heightened security almost certain in Tel Aviv after explosion late Aug. 18 /update 2
Heightened security almost certain in Tel Aviv, Israel, after authorities declare Aug. 18 explosion along Lehi Road as terror attack.
Israeli authorities will almost certainly maintain heightened security measures in Tel Aviv after they declared the Aug. 18 explosion along Lehi Road in the city as a 'terror attack.' An individual from the West Bank apparently was carrying an explosive device in his backpack when it prematurely detonated. The attack injured one passerby. Hamas' military wing, Al-Qassam Brigades, has claimed responsibility, stating that it carried out the attack in cooperation with the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) militant group.
Hamas has threatened further similar attacks in Tel Aviv and other cities within Israel and Palestinian Territories.
Additional patrols and checkpoints are likely near the blast through Aug. 19. Israeli security forces will likely increase operations in the West Bank in an attempt to thwart further similar attacks.
