Israel, Lebanon: Israeli officials announce partial restrictions for northern regions amid escalating tensions as of early Aug. 25 /update 1

Israel declares partial restrictions for northern areas amid ongoing clashes and heightened tensions as of early Aug. 25. Heed directives.

Warning

Israeli officials have announced limited restrictions on civilian movement from the Tel Aviv area north toward the border region from 06:30 Aug. 25 to 18:00 Aug. 26. The restrictions include a gathering limit of 30 people outdoors and 300 indoors. Additionally, educational and work activities can continue if they are near a shelter. Authorities may amend or expand the restrictions in the coming hours and days depending on the prevailing situation and further developments at the border.

The announcement follows armed clashes near the border region of Israel and Lebanon earlier the same day. Israel Defense Forces (IDF) launched airstrikes against several Hizballah targets in southern Lebanon, while Hizballah launched up to 200 rockets toward northern Israel. Officials have yet to confirm any injuries, though witness accounts suggest potential casualties on both sides. Authorities will probably provide updates and damage assessments in the coming hours.

Heightened security and localized business and transport disruptions are likely in the impact areas. Israeli officials have declared a state of emergency through at least Aug. 27 and closed Ben Gurion International Airport (TLV) in Tel Aviv as a precaution due to the ongoing clashes and further threat of rocket strikes; it is unclear when regular flight operations will resume. Further cross-border strikes and clashes are possible in the coming days.

Consider avoiding nonessential travel near the Israel-Lebanon-Syria border region until the situation stabilizes. Monitor local media and abide by security forces' directives. If incoming mortar rounds or rockets are reported or warning sirens sound in the general vicinity, report to the nearest bomb shelter and await further instructions from authorities. If there is no shelter nearby, stay indoors and away from windows and exterior walls. If possible, move to a ground floor or basement. Maintain contact with your diplomatic representation. Reconfirm the status of transport services before departure. Review and update contingency plans.
