Lebanon: Flight disruptions at Beirut–Rafic Hariri International Airport, Aug. 25
Flight disruptions likely to persist at Beirut–Rafic Hariri International Airport, Lebanon, in the coming days after Aug. 25 escalation.
Disruptions are likely at Beirut–Rafic Hariri International Airport (BEY) in the coming days after several airlines canceled flights and operations were temporarily suspended earlier on Aug. 25. The disruptions were due to a major cross-border escalation between the Israeli military and Hezbollah. Air France (AF) has canceled flights on Aug. 25 and 26. Royal Jordanian Airlines (RJ) and Etihad Airways (EY) have also canceled some Beirut-bound flights in response to the Aug. 25 escalation. Lufthansa (LH) issued a statement on Aug. 23 (before the recent escalation) that its flight suspension to Beirut would be extended through September. Lebanon's General Directorate of Civil Aviation has denied reports in the media that all flights were canceled at BEY on Aug. 25.
Additional cancellations and disruptions are likely at BEY in the coming days and weeks in response to regional developments. Airlines could announce suspensions of activities at very short notice. Demand for alternative available flights is likely to increase during periods of heightened tensions. Should the facility close, available alternatives to depart Lebanon are limited.
Reconfirm all flights scheduled through BEY. Do not check out of accommodations until onward travel is confirmed. Plan for short-term disruptions or cancellations. Review contingency plans. Maintain contact with diplomatic representatives. In light of the recent regional increase in tensions, consider avoiding nonessential travel to Lebanon, particularly the shared border region with Israel, until the situation stabilizes. Consider departing Lebanon via commercial means while these are available.
