Lebanon: Israeli strike reported near Qasr, Hermel District, Aug. 2
Israeli airstrikes reported near Qasr in Hermel District, Baalbek-Hermel Governorate, Lebanon, Aug. 2. Further cross-border violence likely.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reportedly conducted a series of airstrikes against Lebanese Hizballah (LH) targets in Qasr (Al-Qasr) in Hermel District, Baalbek-Hermel Governorate, Aug. 2. Initial reports allege that one explosion occurred at the edge of Qasr. A second strike reportedly happened at the nearby Matraba crossing on the Syrian border.
Heightened security, transport disruptions, and business disruptions are likely in the affected area over the coming hours. Further cross-border violence is likely in the short term.
Avoid the impacted location until authorities give the all-clear. Plan for localized disruptions. Allow additional time for travel and seek alternative routes to circumvent the affected area. Heed all official directives.
The IDF has regularly retaliated against projectile attacks by LH; however, it has increasingly begun targeting LH's military infrastructure deeper inside Lebanon in an effort to deter the militant group from further attacks.
