Protesters impede flow of traffic on Federal Highway 15 near La Marquesa, Mexico State, Mexico, Aug. 30; increased security presence likely.
Lingering traffic disruptions will likely affect Federal Highway 15 in Mexico State after residents of Acazulco launched a demonstration on the route near La Marquesa on Aug. 30. The purpose of the protest is to denounce an alleged lack of remuneration for 20 hectares (50 acres) of land used for the construction of the Mexico City-Toluca Interurban Train as well as alleged unauthorized logging. Significant traffic congestion has been reported in the area in connection with the demonstration.
Authorities will likely deploy a heightened security presence to the protest site. Clashes between protesters and police cannot be ruled out, especially if security forces attempt to forcibly disperse the demonstrators.
Avoid the protest as a precaution. Allow additional time to reach destinations and seek alternative routes to circumvent the affected area. Adhere to all instructions issued by local officials.
