Internet and telephone service disruptions are affecting several northern areas of North Province as of Aug. 22. Outages began around 17:00 Aug. 21 following damage to a telephone pole and fiber optic cables due to a road accident near Karembe. Affected areas include Belep, Colnett, Kaala Gomen, Karembe, Koumac, Malabou, Ouegoa, Paagoumene, Pouebo, and Poum. Officials state services may resume from the evening of Aug. 22, though delays are possible.

Users are likely to experience lingering disruptions, such as call drops, slow internet speeds, and connectivity issues, even after services resume. Associated business disruptions are also possible.

The accident site is approximately 76 km (47 miles) northwest of Kone.
