Authorities rescued a Chinese who was reported kidnapped in Qonce (King William's Town) on July 27 following police intervention at a residence in Mooiplaas near East London early Aug. 1. Three suspects are currently detained in connection with the kidnapping. Details surrounding the kidnapping, such as the precise location, as well as the identity and modus operandi of the perpetrators, remain unclear. A ransom of ZAR 350,000 (USD 19,200) was reportedly demanded and paid by the victim's brother. The brother, who was allegedly kidnapped while paying the victim's ransom, is still missing.
