UK: Activist groups to protest in central London, Aug. 7

Activist groups plan protests in central London, UK, from 12:00 Aug 7. Increased security likely.

Informational

Activist groups plan to demonstrate at three locations in central London, in the afternoon of Aug. 7. Protesters will demand the release of the environmentalist Paul Walker from custody in Denmark. Attendees will gather at the US Embassy from 12:00, then march to the Foreign Office in Whitehall for 14:00, and then to the Danish Embassy for 16:00. It is possible that several hundred supporters will take part.

Tight security measures will likely accompany the event, especially due to the sensitive locations of the protests. Localized disruptions are likely. Violence is not anticipated.

Avoid the demonstrations as a routine security precaution and to mitigate associated disruptions. Check for transport disruptions before beginning journeys and allow extra time for travel in the affected area in the afternoon of Aug. 7. Heed instructions from security services.

Paul Walker is a US-Canadian citizen and environmental campaigner. He is a co-founder of Greenpeace and founder of the Sea Shepherd movement. He was arrested July 21 in Greenland, under Danish jurisdiction, in response to an international arrest warrant issued by Japan. Walker's anti-whaling campaigns have frequently challenged Japanese interests.
