Demonstrators are clashing with police at the Holiday Inn Express in Rotherham, Sheffield, as of the afternoon of Aug. 4. Protesters gathered at the hotel, which allegedly houses asylum seekers, and started breaking windows and damaging other parts of the property. The action is reportedly in response to the fatal stabbing incident that occurred in Southport July 29. Authorities are advising the public to avoid the area.
Sporadic clashes will likely continue through late Aug. 4; confrontations could abate in some locations before restarting elsewhere in the city.
