US: Adverse weather prompts air travel disruptions at New York City area airports as the evening of Aug. 3

Flight disruptions likely at airports in the New York, N.Y. area, US, through late Aug. 3 due to severe weather.

As of the evening of Aug. 3, severe thunderstorms have prompted flight disruptions at Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) in Newark, New Jersey, and John F Kennedy International Airport (JFK) in New York City, New York. Flight disruptions, including delays and cancellations, will likely continue to affect these airports into the early hours of Aug. 4. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has issued ground delay programs for both facilities until at least 00:59 Aug. 4. The FAA may modify or rescind the ground delays on short notice. As of the evening of Aug. 3, departure delays at EWR are averaging 339 minutes, with those at JFK averaging 226 minutes. Flight disruptions are possible at other airports in the region.

Lingering disruptions will probably continue for several hours after the two airports return to normal operations as carriers reposition aircraft and work through their passenger backlogs.

Reconfirm planned flights via EWR and JFK. Allow additional time for travel via the affected airports.
