Emergency crews continuing response to wildfire near Murrieta, Calif., US, as of late afternoon Aug. 3. Evacuation orders lifted.

Warning

Firefighters are continuing their efforts to contain a wildfire burning in Murrieta, California, as of late afternoon Aug. 3. The blaze broke out earlier the same day near Highway 215 Murietta. The cause of the fire remains unclear. Warm, dry, and breezy conditions have aided the fire's growth; further wildfire growth will likely occur in the coming hours and days. Authorities have lifted an evacuation order affecting the area between Highway 215, Los Alamos Road, and Whitewood Road. One northbound lane of Highway 215 has been reopened to traffic; southbound traffic is proceeding normally on the thoroughfare. Police are advising the public to avoid the affected area.

Fire activity may pick up again in the coming hours or days. Renewed evacuations and transport disruptions are likely if the fire spreads. Residents' return will probably disrupt traffic flows after authorities lift evacuation orders. Power outages are likely in affected areas. Low visibility from smoke and possible ashfall could contribute to traffic delays and congestion in the region.

Seek updated information on road conditions if driving in the affected area; road closures and detours will cause increased congestion and delays. Collect essential items - including identification and any important legal and travel documents - in an easily accessible "go-bag." Charge battery-powered devices in the case of prolonged power outages.

Individuals not under evacuation warnings should consider remaining inside well-ventilated, air-conditioned spaces to reduce exposure to smoke. Individuals with chronic respiratory illnesses may be more susceptible to the negative effects of smoke inhalation. Eye irritation is possible; flush irritated eyes with copious amounts of clean water.
