Australia: Unionized Qantas engineers to strike AT Melbourne Airport on Sept. 26

Unionized Qantas engineers to strike at Melbourne Airport, Australia, on Sept. 26. Reconfirm travel plans.

Informational

Unionized Qantas (QF) engineers under the Qantas Engineers' Alliance plan to strike at Melbourne Airport (MEL) on SePT. 26 to demand wage increases. Union leaders have threatened to expand the scope of the strike to other major airports if their demands are not met, including Sydney Kingsford Smith Airport (SYD), Brisbane Airport (BNE), and Perth Airport (PER). Airport officials have stated contingency plans have been implemented to ensure minimal impact ON operations. Organizers may cancel the planned action at short notice if their negotiations with Qantas succeed.

Demonstrations or pickets and heightened security are possible at MEL during the strike period. Lingering disruptions are possible for several hours after the work stoppages end.

Confirm flight reservations if traveling to MEL. Make alternative travel arrangements for time-sensitive matters if necessary. Do not check out of accommodations until onward travel is confirmed. Heed all official transport and security advisories.
