Austria: Environmental groups plan protests in Vienna and nationwide, Sept. 27

Climate activists plan to demonstrate in Vienna and major urban centers across Austria, Sept. 27; localized disruptions likely.

Informational

Climate activists plan to hold numerous demonstrations in Vienna and other cities across Austria, Sept. 27. Fridays for Future and other environmental groups will mark Climate Action Day (Klimaaktionstag) to demand increased action to tackle climate change. The largest events are likely to be in Vienna, where students will gather in three locations from 10:30-12:00: at the Parliament, at Meidlinger Platzl, and at Urban-Loritz-Platz. Several hundred to low thousands of participants may attend each event.

Organizers plan over 20 further protests across the country. While each demonstration is unlikely to be disruptive, the cumulative impact nationwide may be significant.

Gatherings are likely to remain peaceful. Police will likely deploy near the larger rallies as a precaution. Localized traffic disruptions are probable. Increased crowding on public transport systems is possible near the larger rally locations.

Avoid all demonstrations as a routine security precaution and to mitigate associated disruptions. Heed instructions from security services. Check local media sources for up-to-date information on local events, and allow extra time for travel in any protest-affected areas Sept. 27.
