Chile: Airport workers to strike at Santiago International Airport starting Sept. 11
Unionized workers at Santiago International Airport, Chile, to launch indefinite strike on Sept. 11. Flight disruptions likely.
Unionized employees of Santiago International Airport (SCL) in Chile plan to launch an indefinite strike starting at 00:01 Sept. 11 to demand higher salaries. Labor leaders have stated that the strike will continue for at least 30 days unless workers' demands are met.
Although flight delays are likely during the industrial action, airport authorities do not anticipate the work stoppage to be crippling. SCL has implemented a contingency plan and unionized workers much maintain a minimum level of service, as well as attend to critical functions. Nevertheless, some flight delays and cancellations, as well as reduced services throughout the terminal, are especially likely between Sept. 13-22 when higher-than-usual numbers of passengers will be transiting SCL due to the national holiday period.
Confirm travel arrangements if booked to fly via SCL during the announced strike period, and especially between Sept. 13-22. Do not check out of accommodations until onward travel is confirmed. Consider making alternative arrangements for time-sensitive travel if necessary.
