Colombia: Pro-government activists plan to protest nationwide on Sept. 19
Pro-government activists plan to rally, march in multiple locations across Colombia on Sept. 19. Disruptions likely.
Members of multiple organizations and political parties, including the Central Workers' Union (Central Unitaria de Trabajadores, CUT), plan to hold rallies and marches in multiple locations throughout Colombia on Sept. 19. The demonstrations are in support of President Gustavo Petro's administration, and to oppose alleged attempts to remove him from office.
Some of the confirmed locations include the following:
Bogota: Rally at Plaza de Bolivar, starting at 11:00.
Cali: March from Parque de las Banderas to Cali City Hall, starting at 09:00.
Ibague: March from Casa del Maestro to Parque Murillo Toro, time unconfirmed.
Medellin: March from Parque de las Luces to Parque de los Deseos (also known as Parque de la Resistencia), 10:00.
Thousands are likely to participate in most of the demonstrations, especially in Bogota. Protests in other locations are highly likely, including Barranquilla, Cucuta, Manizales, and Bucaramanga.
Heightened security near the protests routes are likely, with associated transport and business disruptions in the impacted areas. Counter-protests, and clashes between demonstrators and police cannot be ruled out.
Avoid all protests as a precaution. Plan for delays and alternative routes if operating in major cities in Colombia on Sept. 19. Heed instructions from authorities.
