Colombia: Truck drivers continue to protest across several departments as of Sept. 3 /update 1

Truck drivers continue to protest across several departments in Colombia as of Sept. 3. Protests likely to persist in the coming days.

Warning

Cargo truck drivers continue to protest and block multiple routes across several departments of Colombia to denounce diesel prices as of early Sept. 3. In Bogota, demonstrators are blocking several key thoroughfares, including parts of Avenida Boyaca, Avenida Caracas, Avenida Cali, Carrera 7, and Autopista Medellin. Blockades have also affected other parts of the country, including Santander, North Santander, and Antioquia departments. Some of the key highways affected include the following:

  • National Highway 60: Disruptions reported between Medellin and Bogota.

  • National Highway 45A: Disruptions reported between El Socorro and Oiba; San Gil and Bucaramanga.

  • National Highway 66: Disruptions reported between Pamplona and Bucaramanga.

  • National Highway 25: Disruptions reported between Pasto and Mojarras.

Protests may continue over the coming days across Colombia and cause significant supply-chain disruptions. Police are likely to deploy to any demonstrations, and clashes cannot be ruled out, especially if authorities attempt to forcibly disperse protesters and reopen roads. Heightened security near key roads and government offices is likely.

Avoid protests and roadblocks. Plan for delays and allow additional time to reach your destination if operating in affected areas. Heed instructions from authorities.
