Cyprus: Activists to demonstrate in Nicosia Sept. 22

Political activists to protest at Presidential Palace in Nicosia, Cyprus, 16:00 Sept. 22. Heightened security likely.

Informational

Activists affiliated with the Progress Party of Working People (AKEL) Party plan to protest at the Presidential Palace in Nicosia from 16:00 on Sept. 22. The purpose of the demonstration is to denounce the suspension of the Auditor General of the Supreme Constitutional Council. It was not immediately clear how many participants may attend.

Heightened security and localized transport disruptions are likely near the protest site. Though unlikely, low-level confrontations between demonstrators and law enforcement officers cannot be ruled out.

Avoid the protest area as a standard precaution. Allow additional time if traveling near the protest site. Strictly heed all instructions from law enforcement officers. Immediately depart the area at the first sign that any security disturbance may occur.
