Ecuador: Bus operators end strike in Guayaquil, Sept. 12 /update 2

Unionized bus operators affiliated with the Federation of Urban Transporters of Guayas (Federacion de Transportadores Urbanos del Guayas, FETUG) in the Guayaquil Metropolitan Area have ended their strike as of Sept. 12. The walkout began Sept. 9, with drivers demanding an increase in the cost of public bus fares. Union leaders opted to suspend the action following a meeting with municipal transit authorities.

Lingering disruptions are possible through at least late Sept. 12 as buses return to their normal operations.
