Activists to march from Kansalaistor to Ministry of Finance in Helsinki, Finland, from 13:00 Sept. 7. Transport disruptions likely.
Activists affiliated with the Elokapina (Last Generation) movement plan to hold a march in central Helsinki Sept. 7. The purpose of the demonstration is to celebrate a court decision to drop criminal charges that had been filed against eco-activists. Participants will gather at Kainsalaistor for a rally 13:00-17:00 before marching to the Ministry of Finance, where they will hold a second rally until 21:00. It remains unclear how many participants the event may draw; however, authorities expect the demonstration to cause significant traffic disruptions.
Heightened security and transport disruptions are likely in central Helsinki from the early afternoon through the late evening. Though unlikely, low-level confrontations between demonstrators and law enforcement officers, frustrated motorists, or ideologically opposed individuals cannot be ruled out.
Avoid the affected area as a standard precaution. Allow additional time if traveling in the vicinity of Kainsalaistor or the Ministry of Finance while the demonstration is taking place. Strictly heed all instructions from law enforcement officers. Immediately depart the area at the first sign of any security disturbance.
