Germany: Environment activists to demonstrate in Frankfurt from 14:00 Sept. 29

Environment activists to demonstrate in Frankfurt, Germany, from 14:00 Sept. 29. Increased security, A5 motorway closure planned.

Informational

Environment activists plan to demonstrate in Frankfurt from 14:00 Sept. 29. Campaign groups will denounce the planned expansion of the A5 motorway where it bypasses the city. Participants will stage a mass "bicycle rally", that will follow the route:

  • 14:00: Start of rally at the Mainkai

  • 15:10: Cyclists will gather at the Schwanheimer Ufer/Niederrad motorway entrance

  • 15:30: Cyclists will enter the A5 northbound

  • 16:00: Cyclists will finish at the Bockenheim campus.

Local authorities have approved the closure of the A5. A previous event attracted around 14,000 participants, and similar numbers may take part on Sept. 29.

Authorities will almost certainly deploy increased security in the vicinity of the bicycle protest. Traffic on the A5 motorway will likely be delayed and diverted during the event.

Avoid the area of the protest during the afternoon of Sept. 29 as a precaution. Heed the instructions of local security personnel. Allow extra time to reach destinations near the demonstration venue.
