Ghana: Political activists to protest nationwide on Sept. 17

Activists to march to all regional Electoral Commision (EC) offices across Ghana Sept. 17. Disruptions likely near EC offices nationwide.

Warning

Political activists affiliated with the National Democratic Congress plan to protest nationwide on Sept. 17 in response to perceived voter registration irregularities. Protest organizers announced that participants would march to the Electoral Commission (EC) regional offices, and NDC leadership will present a petition at the EC headquarters in Accra. It is unclear how many people will participate in the marches.

Increased security measures like security cordons and roadblocks are likely near EC offices nationwide. Transport and business disruptions will likely occur near EC offices and surrounding areas on Sept. 17.

Avoid all protests as a standard precaution and seek alternative routes to circumvent the impacted area. Heed all instructions from local authorities and leave the area at the first sign of a security disturbance.
