Ghana: University staff on indefinite strike nationwide from Sept. 16

The Senior Staff Association of Universities of Ghana (SSA-UoG) has called for an indefinite nationwide strike from Sept. 16. Union leaders are demanding the government address issues such as vehicle maintenance and pension allowances. The strike will likely continue until officials meet select demands.

Related protests are possible near public universities and government buildings, particularly in urban centers such as Accra or Kumasi. Heightened security and localized traffic disruptions are likely near any protests that materialize. Should students support the educational staff, the scale of the demonstrations and associated risk of clashes with security forces will likely increase.
