Guadeloupe: Officials likely to maintain tight security in several areas through at least late September
Officials likely to maintain tight security measures in parts of Guadeloupe through late September. Curfew for minors in effect 22:00-05:00.
Officials will likely maintain a heightened security presence in parts of Guadeloupe through at least late September after authorities recently implemented a 22:00-05:00 nightly curfew in several locations for minors unaccompanied by a parent or other adult exercising parental authority. The curfew is slated to remain in effect through at least 05:00 Sept. 28 in the following areas:
Les Abymes Municipality: Boisripeaux District
Le Gosier Municipality: Poucet and Mare-Gaillard districts
Pointe-a-Pitre Municipality: Lauricisque and Chanzy districts
Sainte-Rose Municipality: La Boucan and Bebel sectors
Authorities imposed the curfew after riots, roadblocks, arson incidents, and attacks on law enforcement personnel reportedly occurred in the abovementioned areas in recent days. Officials may extend or expand the curfew measures on short notice, especially in the event of further violence involving young people. Law enforcement personnel may attempt to forcibly disperse any gatherings in violation of the curfew measures, and clashes between police and young people cannot be ruled out. Localized transport and business disruptions will likely affect any areas subject to unrest.
Avoid any disruptive gatherings that materialize. Consider taking alternative routes to circumvent any areas subject to unrest and consequent disruptions. If violence breaks out in your area, immediately depart the vicinity and seek shelter in a secure, nongovernmental building. Adhere to all instructions issued by local officials.
