Iraq: Protest reported in vicinity of US Embassy in Baghdad late Sept. 28
Protest in apparent condemnation of Lebanese Hizballah leader's killing reported in vicinity of US Embassy in Baghdad, Iraq, late Sept. 28.
A large demonstration materialized in the vicinity of the US Embassy in Baghdad late Sept. 28. Protest participants have gathered in apparent condemnation of Israel's killing of Lebanese Hizballah (LH) leader Hassan Nasrallah in Beirut on Sept. 27. Some reports indicate that demonstrators have attempted to breach the walls of the embassy. However, Iraqi security forces are on the scene and will likely disperse the crowd.
Increased security and localized transport disruptions will likely affect the vicinity through at least the early hours of Sept. 29. Clashes between police and protesters are possible, particularly if demonstrators are overly disruptive or ignore any orders from police to disperse.
Avoid the protest due to the potential for clashes. Allow additional time if traveling near the affected area. Heed the advice of security personnel and leave the area at the first sign of a confrontation.
