Iraq: Protests ongoing in Nasiriyah, Dhi Qar Governorate, Sept. 16

Disruptive protests have occurred near Dhi Qar Governorate building in Nasiriyah Sept. 16. Protesters have reportedly gathered near and blocked thoroughfares with burning debris. Demonstrators are demanding better employment opportunities. Security forces have deployed to monitor the protesters and reportedly fired tear gas in an effort to disperse them.

Authorities will likely maintain a heightened security posture in the protest area until the situation stabilizes. Localized transport disruptions are likely through at least late Sept. 16.
