Israel, PT, Jordan: Authorities close border crossings between Israel, the West Bank, and Jordan as of Sept. 8 following earlier shooting incident /update 2
Allenby, Yitzhak Rabin, Jordan River border crossings between Israel, the West Bank, and Jordan closed until further notice as of Sept. 8.
Israeli authorities closed the Allenby (also known as King Hussein Bridge), Yitzhak Rabin (also known as Arava), and Jordan River border crossings as of Sept. 8 following a shooting incident at the Allenby border crossing earlier on Sept. 8. All departure and entry of passengers and cargo activities have been suspended at the crossings until further notice. However, returning Israeli passengers will be allowed through the Yitzhak Rabin and Jordan River border crossings. Authorities have not given any estimation of when normal operations will resume at the border crossings; updates are likely to be issued in the coming hours.
A heightened Israeli security presence is likely at border crossings between Israel, the West Bank, and Jordan over the coming hours. Israeli authorities may further extend the border closures or implement movement restrictions in response to security developments over the short term. Road closures may be implemented to facilitate security operations. Clashes between security forces and militants could occur.
Avoid the affected areas. Plan for road travel and cargo transport delays. Heed instructions of security personnel.
Security personnel deployed to the Allenby border crossing between the West Bank and Jordan earlier on Sept. 8 following a shooting incident. An unidentified assailant fired on Israeli workers at the crossing, killing at least three people. Security forces neutralized the assailant. Reports indicate the assailant was a truck driver who arrived from Jordan.
