Italy: Public transport personnel to strike across Turin Sept. 13

Unionized public transport workers to strike across Greater Turin, Italy, Sept. 13. Transport disruptions likely.

Warning

Unionized public transport workers employed by Gruppo Torinese Trasporti (GTT), the primary public transport operator for the greater Turin area, plan to conduct a 24-hour strike on Sept. 13. The purpose of the labor action is to demand improved working conditions and compensation. The following guaranteed service timeslots are planned:

  • Urban-suburban transport, metropolitan transport: 06:00-09:00 and 12:00-15:00.

  • Extraurban service, Cooperative Bus Service Line 3971: Start of service to 08:00, and 14:30-17:30.

Rail, metro, bus, and tram disruptions are likely across the Metropolitan City of Turin and the Alessandria, Asti, and Cuneo provinces and may continue into the early hours of Sept. 14. Transport disruptions may persist even during guaranteed service hours. Picket protests are possible; heightened security and localized transport disruptions are likely near any demonstrations that take shape. Low-level confrontations between demonstrators and law enforcement officers cannot be ruled out.

Consider seeking alternate forms of transport during strike hours. Allow additional time for travel via guaranteed services. Avoid all protests as a standard precaution. Strictly heed all instructions from law enforcement officers. Immediately depart the area at the first sign that any security disturbance may occur.
