Italy: Unionized public transport workers to conduct a 24-hour strike in Rome, Oct. 5

Unionized public transport workers plan to hold 24-hour strike in Rome, Italy, Oct. 5. Bus, tram, and rail disruptions likely.

Informational

Unionized bus, tram, and rail workers employed by Atac, Rome's primary transport provider, plan to conduct a 24-hour strike in Rome on Oct. 5. Workers affiliated with the Orsa Tpl union will strike to demand improved safety conditions and increased wages for public transport staff. All transport services will operate during guaranteed service hours from 05:30-08:30 and 17:00-20:00. The strike will not impact national rail services operated by Trenitalia.

Unless averted, the strike will likely cause disruptions to bus, tram, and metro services in Rome during strike hours. Additionally, Rome's local railways could also be impacted by the strike action, namely the Rome-Lido, Rome-Viterbo, and Termini-Centocelle lines. The strike may prompt increased traffic congestion and demand for alternative public transportation. Transport disruptions could also persist during guaranteed service hours. Lingering disruptions may occur after the strike ends. Picket protests are possible; heightened security and localized transport disruptions are likely near any demonstrations that take shape

Reconfirm the availability of public transportation across Rome during strike hours. Make alternate travel arrangements if necessary. Allow additional time to reach destinations to account for possible congestion. Avoid all protests as a standard precaution. Strictly heed all instructions from law enforcement officers.
