Heightened security and search operations will likely persist over the coming days in Maiduguri and surrounding areas in Borno State following a prison escape on Sept. 10. An unconfirmed amount of inmates escaped from the Medium Security Custodial Center Maiduguri. Officials announced that three fugitives have been arrested. The escape took place amid heavy floods and evacuation orders in the area. Prior to the prison break, correctional services had planned to transfer the inmates.

Search operations will likely cause localized transport disruptions; security forces may establish checkpoints or roadblocks on entry and exit roads from Maiduguri. Clashes involving fugitives and security forces cannot be ruled out.
