Nigeria: Supporters of prominent politician gather in Lagos on Sept. 15

Supporters of Omoyele Sowore, a politician and activist, gathered at Muritala Muhammad International Airport (LOS) early Sept. 15. Upon arrival, security personnel detained Sowore. Sowore issued a statement earlier confirming he had been detained and his passport confiscated; he later confirmed he had been released and his passport returned.

Heightened security is likely at the airport in the coming hours. If Sowore is detained again, protests could escalate in the area. Clashes between police and protesters are possible. Disruptions to routes leading to and from LOS are also possible.
