Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party cancels protests across Pakistan Sept. 13.
The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party has withdrawn its call for nationwide protests Sept. 13. The action was initially planned to denounce the arrests of its leaders for allegedly violating recently passed laws governing public gatherings. The detentions occurred after a PTI rally in Islamabad Sept. 8 and within the parliamentary complex in Islamabad Sept. 10.
Authorities may remain at heightened alert in major cities as a precaution; police deployment, vehicle checks, and patrols are especially likely near government buildings.
