Authorities to conduct dispose of WWII bomb in Gumience District, Szczecin, Poland, 09:00 Sept. 12; evacuations, road closures planned.

Warning

Authorities plan to defuse an unexploded WWII bomb at the Cukrownia housing development on Eugeniusz Kwiatkowksi Street in the Gumience District of Szczecin starting at 09:00 Sept. 12. An exclusion zone of about 1,453 meters (4,768 feet) in width around the bomb's location will go into effect early in the morning, with local residents being evacuated for the duration of the disposal operation. Roads will be closed and vehicular and pedestrian traffic prohibited in the exclusion zone. It remains unclear whether the nearby Szczecin Gumience railway station will be operating normally. Officials have given no estimate as to how long the bomb disposal operation will last.

Localized transport and business disruptions will continue until explosive ordnance technicians have rendered the device safe and given the all-clear. Transport disruptions could also spill over into areas immediately outside of the exclusion zone.

Avoid the affected area on Sept. 12 until the bomb disposal operation is complete. Consider taking alternative routes if operating near the exclusion zone. Reconfirm rail service schedules on the west side of Szczecin, especially if planning to travel via Szczecin Gumience station. Strictly heed all instructions from authorities.
