Poland: Rail disruptions likely due to railway track protest in Katowice Sept. 3
Railway track protest in Katowice, Poland, likely prompting rail disruptions Sept. 3. Increased security likely; clashes possible.
Railway workers are holding an impromptu protest on the tracks in Katowice on Sept. 3 to denounce planned retrenchments from two freight companies, PKP Cargo and PKP Cargotabor. Around 100 unionized employees of the two companies began to protest around 08:00 on the rail tracks near Florian Street, likely prompting rail disruptions between Katowice and Sosnowiec.
Authorities may deploy police to monitor the protest and potentially disperse the gathering to allow the passage of trains. Rail schedules may be amended over the coming hours. Clashes between protesters and police cannot be ruled out, especially if security forces attempt to forcibly disperse the demonstrators.
Avoid the protest as a precaution. Allow additional time to reach destinations and seek alternative routes to circumvent the affected area. Adhere to all instructions issued by local officials.
