Heightened tensions likely across West Bank, PT, after Israeli strike kills five Palestinians in Tubas Sept. 5. Strikes, protests possible.
Heightened tensions are likely across the West Bank over the coming days after an Israeli strike killed five Palestinians in Tubas early Sept. 5. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) claimed that it was carrying out a counterterrorism raid in the area. The IDF has been intensifying its military operation in the West Bank over the past week, killing at least 38 Palestinians and injuring around 140 others since Aug. 28.
Israeli forces will likely launch further security raids in the West Bank over the medium term. Additional clashes between Israeli forces and Palestinians are likely in Tubas and other major Palestinian cities, including Jenin, Ramallah, and Nablus. Palestinian authorities could call for general strikes and associated protests in response to the incident.
Exercise caution if operating in the West Bank, especially Tubas. Avoid all demonstrations and areas where security personnel appear to be concentrating. If violence breaks out, immediately depart the area and seek shelter in a secure, nongovernmental building. Refrain from loitering near security checkpoints and main entrances to hotels, restaurants, and government buildings. Do not attempt to bypass security checkpoints without authorities' permission. Adhere to all instructions issued by local officials and your home government.
