Airstrikes kill at least 12 militia fighters in Syria's Deir Ez-Zur Governorate overnight Sept. 28-29. Further strikes likely.
Airstrikes targeted Deir Ez-Zur Airport (DEZ) and the Harabesh area of Deir Ez-Zur Governorate, Syria, overnight Sept. 28-29, killing at least 12 people. Kata'ib Sayyid al-Shuhada (KSS), an Iraqi Shi'a militia group, was reportedly among those the targets in the latest airstrikes. It is unclear if the US or Israeli forces conducted the airstrikes. A similar strike also targeted militias in Al-Bukamal along the Syrian-Iraqi border Sept. 28, wounding at least one person. The airstrikes came after reports of explosions at the US-led coalition forces' Conoco Gas Field base in Deir Ez-Zur.
Increased security is likely over the coming hours near the impact areas. Further similar incidents remain possible over the coming hours and days.
Avoid the vicinity of the Harabesh area until the situation normalizes. Heed the instructions of security forces. If an attack alert is issued in the general vicinity, stay indoors and away from windows and exterior walls. If possible, move to a ground floor, basement, or bunker. Maintain contact with your country's diplomatic mission.
