US: Authorities responding to tornado damage in Delaware and Jay counties, Ind., as of late Sept. 22

Emergency response operations are ongoing in Delaware and Jay counties, Indiana, as of late Sept. 22 after a tornado touched down at around 19:50 just outside of Portland. There have been no reports of injuries, though in Jay County, multiple houses in the Beacon Heights housing addition across Indiana 67, the Jay County Junior-Senior High School, and the west side of Portland sustained damage. The tornado also damaged a large commercial building in Delaware County. Tyson Road in Portland is closed until further notice. Schools across Jay county will close Sept. 23 with no remote learning. Service crews are working to restore power to those affected.

As recovery efforts continue, transport and business disruptions will likely occur in the affected area over the coming days. Blackouts could disrupt essential services such as municipal water distribution, ATMs, and fueling stations. Traffic disruptions are probable due to malfunctioning traffic lights. Further adverse weather is possible in the region. 

Monitor local media for updated emergency and weather information. Be prepared to quickly move to a safe location if officials isuse new warnings. Postpone driving until weather conditions improve.
