Police have closed the Long Beach International Gateway Bridge in Long Beach, California the morning of Sept. 30 as they respond to a security incident. Preliminary reports indicate that officers pursued several suspects in a burglary along the 710 Freeway and onto the bridge. One of the suspect subsequently jumped off the bridge and died in an effort to escape. Authorities have as yet provided no estimate as to when the bridge may reopen.

Significant transport disruptions in the area are likely for the coming hours, even after the bridge reopens.

Avoid the affected area. Consider alternative routes to avoid the International Gateway Bridge until police complete their investigation and vacate the area.
