Bangladesh: Cargo workers' strike disrupting operations at Chittagong Port as of Oct. 22

Transport workers' strike disrupting shipping at Chittagong Port in Bangladesh as of Oct. 22. Protests possible.

Warning

A labor strike by cargo transport workers at Chittagong port - the busiest and largest seaport in Bangladesh - has prompted shipping disruptions as of Oct. 22. The action is due to several demands to employers, including identity card provision. The strike, scheduled to last through 06:00 Oct. 23, has resulted in the suspension of cargo movement between the port and all 20 inland container depots.

If workers prolong the strike, widespread shipping delays could prompt supply chain disruptions in the coming days. Strike supporters may hold protests outside offices within the port. Although unlikely, clashes may break out if police forcibly disperse gatherings.

Confirm deliveries and plan for potential shipping delays through the duration of the work stoppage. Consider alternative shipping methods for time-sensitive cargo.
