DRC: Youth council plans protest in Kinshasa against diplomatic ties with France, Oct. 15

The National Youth Council (CNJ) has planned a protest march in Kinshasa, Oct. 15. The march will begin near the Palais du Peuple at 10:00 and end near the French embassy. The action is to demand the DRC's withdrawal from the Organisation Internationale de la Francophonie (OIF), an international organization of French-speaking countries. Protesters plan to deliver memorandums to the Prime Minister and to the French ambassador.

Heightened security is likely in Kinshasa ahead of and during the protest, especially near the French embassy. Administrative service disruptions are probable. Road travel disruptions are likely, and security forces could restrict access to nearby buildings. Clashes between police and demonstrators are also likely. Protesters could engage in acts of violence, including arson and vandalism.
